1. To increase public awareness of the many skills, artistic
achievements, and professional roles of Muslim women throughout the world, and in so doing
to challenge the widespread, falsely negative images of Muslim women which are perpetuated
by the media.
2. To provide the resources, general guidance and personal
mentoring needed for the development of the artistic potential and skills of Muslim women.
3. To bring together professional as well as
amateur artists by holding exhibitions and educational events, and to provide supportive
structures for Muslim women artists who wish to become professionals in their field.
4. To develop and present, through writing, conferences, and
presentations a comprehensive philosophy of art and art education from the viewpoint of
Muslim women artists.
5. To promote and preserve the artistic skills and crafts,
traditional and contemporary, of Muslim women.
6. To create a dialogue about, and offer guidelines
regarding, parameters of artistic appropriateness for the Muslim artist's adherence to
shariah in the present century.
7. To publish books, articles, and other writings based on
IMAN members' activities.
8. To conduct exhibitions for the presentation and promotion
of work created by Muslim women in every field of art.
9. To illustrate, through lectures, conferences, and other
educational activities, the important role of art in Islamic culture and social life, and
to establish its vital influence on this and future Islamic generations.
10. To establish an art museum which will exhibit both
traditional and contemporary Islamic art, as well as the work of Muslim art professionals
in all fields of contemporary art.
11. To demonstrate the crucial function and importance of
Islamic art as a religious "pointer" (ishara), as a dawa tool, and to promote it
as an ambassador for Islam in the western world and other non-Islamic areas.
