RAFIA HUSSAIN KAMEL

Profile

Rafia Hussain Kamel was born 1971 London, United Kingdom. She grew up with a love for art and painting and design.  Excelling at school and college in art, she completed her studies in the subject at The University of Westminster, in London in 1992, specialising in fashion design and being taught by the talented British designer Abe Hamilton.

After leaving University, her art interest took a bit of a turn.  Her love for Islamic art deepened and extensive gallery visits sparked an interest in calligraphy and modern Islamic art and architecture.

Her style captures modern techniques and mediums mixed with traditional calligraphy styles, her work is modern and but perfectly at home with more traditional tastes. As well as traditional paint and canvas, Rafia has produced many works on different formats and has excelled in digital art and glass art that incorporates calligraphy on

glass with a contemporary feel.

She also produces cards and decorative gift items both in Islamic and more secular styles. She hopes that one day her art will be recognised where Islamic art is concerned and that it will develop into a business bringing in ideas of art & of craftsmanship from the Islamic world and western worlds.

“ There is no better art than that which glorifies Allah and his messenger and  convicts you praise none other than he”
